Green Noosa: Celebrate the Noosa Biosphere this Sunday September 18 at a free day of fun in Noosa Woods, at the end of Hastings Street. UNESCO named the Noosa region Queensland’s first Biosphere Reserve and this is a chance to find out about living in our special natural environment. Enjoy live music and entertainment, food stalls, indigenous showcase, giant tug-of-war, zumba dance party, animal adventures, cooking competitions, and green-themed activities from 10am to 3pm. Catch a free shuttle bus from The J or the Noosa Junction Station, or take the ferry.
Orchid show: The Noosa District Orchid & Foliage Society presents the annual Spring Orchid Show at Memorial Hall, Maple St, Cooroy on September 16 and 17. See orchids and foliage plants, hear advice or buy necessities and plants. Open Friday 8.30am to 5pm, and Saturday 8.30am to 2.30pm. Morning and afternoon tea available. Admission $3.
CUISINE / FOOD
Beer, bugs and beef: Sirocco Noosa brings back the popular Beer, Bugs and Beef lunch this Friday September 16. Each of the three courses is matched with a boutique premium beer (or a glass of house bubbles, white or red) – the lunch costs $50 per person. Reservations are essential on 5455 6688.
Dinner with The King: The original shaved head, Yul Brynner, stars in the 1950s musical The King and I, at the Dinner and Film night at the Majestic Theatre, Pomona, Saturday September 17. Bar and restaurant open at 6pm and the film starts at 7.30pm. Dinner costs $20 (bookings required) or film only is $15/$12. Info and bookings on 5485 2330.

Twice as much jazz: Noosa Jazz Club presents a double header of jazz, featuring East Coast Frisco. They will perform on Saturday September 17 at Bicentennial Hall, Sunshine Beach, from 7.30pm. Tickets at Shoex, Noosa Junction, cost $15 club members and $20 guests. A budget bar will be open. They will also perform at Jim’s House, Sunshine Beach on Sunday at 2pm for a social afternoon. Irish jam: Join the Irish jam session – or just sing along – at Halse Lodge, the beautiful Heritage-listed backpackers hostel at 2 Halse Lane, Noosa Heads, this Tuesday September 20, from 7pm. The Irish jam is on the first and third Tuesday of every month, and you can enjoy a great meal at Halse Lodge’s restaurant.
Baroque Brilliance: Experience the musical brilliance of Baroque classical composers with a student cello concert presented by Cello Dreaming in Eudlo, on Friday September 16, 6-7.30pm. This family-friendly concert will feature masterpieces by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli, Marcello, Handel and Tartini. Entry is by “pink note” donation and supper will be served after the concert. Doors open at 5.45pm – first come, first seated, at Eudlo Hall, Rosebed Street, Eudlo.

A day on the river: Take advantage of the warm spring weather and head out on the Noosa River with O Boat Hire, Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, who have a September special available: hire a deluxe or barbecue pontoon for a full day and receive a 10% discount, plus the use of two free fishing rods. Luxury ride: Marvel at the whales in Hervey Bay with a boutique service from Private Transfers. They’re offering transfers in a luxury Mercedes from the Sunshine Coast to Hervey Bay, departing at 9am for an afternoon whale watch tour with lunch, returning late afternoon.
